This is a post for people who don’t know football.

Someone asked “Why does it matter who got yellow cards? Isn’t it red cards that kick them off the field for the match?”

Yes, it’s true that a Red Card is the one that suspends you from playing the rest of that game. But it also suspends them for their next match.

A yellow card is a warning. That player can continue to play that match but if they get another they will be sent off.

Now, the thing with yellow cards is they also carry over (sort of). If in the next match they play they get a yellow card, they can still play the current match BUT because they’ve earned 2 yellow cards, the next match they will not be able to play.

Once they serve that game suspension, their yellow card count goes back to zero.

1 Red in a Match – Sent off this Game, Suspended for the Next Match.
1 Yellow in a Match – Warned.
2 Yellows in a Match – Sent off this Game, Suspended for the Next Match.

1 Yellow in Match A, 1 Yellow in Match B – Warned both times – can continue playing, Suspended for Match C.
