Rate This Experience:Just before Christmas, I bought myself a remote control helicopter. As long as I’ve been aware of ‘remote control’ things, I’ve always been fascinated and wanted them, but spending a couple hundred bucks on a toy was always a big investment and the older I get, the less I can reasonably justify the expense… but when I saw video of the new Parrot AR Drone 2, I got excited immediately.
Have you seen this thing?! It’s incredible. Strap on some rockets and I’d be ready to take on the Taliban with this drone.
In all seriousness, being able to control it with my iPad, its supposed ease of flight and its extreme durability + relatively inexpensive replacement parts… seems like I may just have to bite the bullet soon and buy one of these beauties. Running between $300-$400, it is still a serious investment so it may be a couple months before I do get this… but it’s now on my list of things that I need to acquire. So it shall be done!
Check out this video of a guy demoing the drone. So awesome.
Oh, and the remote control helicopter I purchased? The battery on it lasted 4 minutes and it never charged again. But that 4 minutes was the happiest moments of my adult-child years.
